Imagination Lab

Imagination isn’t a gift some people are born with โ it’s a muscle that grows with reps. The Imagination Lab is your gym. Come here when the well feels dry.
๐ง The Daily Dozen โ Creativity Exercises
- Ten Ugly Ideas. Sketch or list ten deliberately bad ideas for anything. Bad ideas unlock the door good ideas are hiding behind.
- The Constraint Game. Make something using only two colors, or one shape, or five minutes. Limits force invention.
- Steal Like a Curator. Pick two unrelated artworks and imagine their collaboration. Warhol ร Hokusai. Vermeer ร graffiti.
- Wrong Answers Only. Ask “what would this look like if it were completely wrong?” โ then look for the accidental genius in it.
- The Five-Minute Museum. Stare at one artwork for five full minutes. Notice what appears at minute four that was invisible at minute one.
- Cross-Sense Drawing. Draw a song. Compose a color. Describe a texture as a taste.
- The Remix Rule. Take your last finished piece and redo it in a style from a different century.
- Question Storm. Write twenty questions about something ordinary โ a spoon, a shadow, an escalator.
- The Beginner’s Hour. Try a medium you’ve never touched. Being bad at something is fertilizer.
- Collect Sparks. Keep a folder of images, phrases and colors that give you a jolt. Review it weekly.
- Finish Something Tiny. A two-inch drawing, a four-line poem. Finishing is a skill separate from making.
- Teach It. Explain something you learned about art to a friend. Teaching burns it into your bones.
๐ฑ Creativity as a Way of Living
The habits that make good art make good lives: noticing more, judging later, experimenting cheerfully, and treating failure as material. Every exercise above works on a business problem, a relationship, a Tuesday. As the Guru says โ normal is simply unfinished imagination.
